Junior Coaching
Hoole LTC is offering members a range of courses for all ages and standards of play. To help you decide on an appropriate level of course I have given a brief description of each below. There are links to lists of the course dates, times and prices at the bottom of the page.
Tiny Tots: Some basic agility, co-ordination and balance work to give young children aged 3-4 years the grounding required for them to be tennis players. Sessions very much fun game-based with a range of activities to enable them to gain key skills to play the game. Parents are encouraged to take part so they can learn ‘hands-on’ how to pass on the skills to the child.
Mini Tennis Red: This is the first stage of learning to play tennis with the activities designed for 4-7 year olds. The emphasis is on developing core skills to improve movement and ball control. Players are taught basic playing techniques, how to rally and are introduced to the rules of the game. There are also some fun competitions.
Mini Tennis Orange: Players aged 8-9 years old who are competent at rallying in a Red Court are encouraged to progress to Mini Tennis Orange with the use of a larger court, higher bouncing ball and longer rackets. Players work on developing movement, ball skills and improving racket control/technique. There is also a greater emphasis on teaching tactics.
Mini Tennis Green: Players aged 9-10 who have become competent in the range of strokes on an Orange Court and who have developed a basic understanding of match play are ready to move to Green level. This game is the last progression before moving to full tennis. Mini Tennis Green is played on a full size court with slightly lower compression balls. Players learn about court positioning and basic tennis tactics.
Improvers Tennis suitable for players aged 10 to 16 years with some knowledge of the game and the ability to carry out a rally and basic over-arm serve. Players receive instruction on developing their techniques and learn how to apply them tactically in a game situation.
Intermediate Tennis is suitable for players aged 10 to 16 years more technically competent at carrying out the strokes of the game and with some understanding of match play. Players receive instruction on developing more advanced techniques and applying them in different tactical situations.
Junior Team coaching is suitable for the more advanced players (10-18yrs). There is an emphasis on developing advanced techniques and improving tactical awareness in match play. There is also a physical element to the coaching to improve movement and flexibility. Players in this category should be looking to compete more regularly in internal and external league match play events to improve their playing level.
Development / Challenger / Performance Mini Tennis Coaching Programme for 5-10 Year olds. The club runs three progressive levels of coaching programme from Development to Challenger to Performance to meet the differing aspirations and skill level of players. Players on Development Courses receive small group coaching once a week to improve skill levels using a fun-based games approach. Players on Challenger and Performance programmes receive a mix of group coaching, individual tuition, fitness training and year-round match play. Players are invited to attend Challenger or Performance training because they have the potential to attain a good club / county standard.
